I question some of the people who write self-help guidebooks or make tutorial videos online, especially the ones who portray themselves to be experts when they are either not “qualified”, have no related experiences, or are narcissistic parasites. It’s as if they’re seeking attention or validation for their efforts.
I came across a video series about entrepreneurship, and the guy behind the videos isn’t. really. an entrepreneur.
He’s an aspiring entrepreneur who’s documenting his journey to entrepreneurship.
Looking at the thumbnail and title of his videos, I assumed that I’d learn some good tips about entrepreneurship based on his experiences. I really thought that he had so much experience under his belt.
When I watched the videos, I became disappointed. Like I said earlier, his videos are more about his journey to becoming an entrepreneur. He hasn’t really done much yet except read a book written by an entrepreneur and becoming a member of an online sellers program.
I can see that he’s excited to start his journey into entrepreneurship, but I really can’t stand how I was kinda duped into believing that he’s an expert. It’s probably because he’s echoing the messages he learned from the book he read.
That book was written by MJ DeMarco. Oh wow, of all the authors, I came across this guy again. MJ DeMarco presents himself as a wealthy guy in his books, and it irks me. To me, he’s not wealthy; he’s just rich. It seems like everytime I read passages from DeMarco’s books, he’s always inflating his ego. I’m surprised that his ego hasn’t popped yet, LOL.
Going back to the guy in the videos, it seemed like he too was inflating his ego. Maybe he’s narcissistic?
I checked his Instagram page, and it’s filled with lots of bots. Yep, narcissistic indeed.
Readers, you may follow some fake experts online and probably admire some of them. Be on the watch for those people who are idolizing themselves. They’re very subtle when it comes to manipulating you.
Yes, fake experts can publish books to “embellish” their name. Yes, fake experts can be content creators on YouTube. They are utilizing whatever vocal platforms that will help them look like they’re outstanding.
If you haven’t read my blog post about “Illusion of Wealth vs. Real Wealth”, then I highly recommend that you check it out. I will say a couple of things here that I’ve touched on in that blog post I mentioned.
Successful people let their actions and work speak for themselves.
They don’t feel the need to broadcast their accomplishments because other people will advertise a good image for them, if their good image is legit.
They don’t brag because they’re busy listening, eager to learn new things because they know they must improve themselves and that they are far from being perfect.
If you’re really proud of your accomplishments, then you shouldn’t feel the need to seek validation from others, to tell others about your progress on things, and such.
So how can we become experts? How do we look for true experts?
Well, one business expert that comes to mind is Walt Disney. Yeah, of all people, you probably didn’t think of him as a business expert.
